Tips For Sleeping Well During Pregnancy

Getting a sound sleep is a basic human need. The need of getting a proper and sound sleep increases during pregnancy. But the truth is that many pregnant women are not able to enjoy the pleasure of a sound sleep.During the first trimester of pregnancy, women tend to be tired and sleep more than ever owing to the high rate of production of progesterone. The interrupted sleep pattern also begins then. Even though the condition becomes better during the second trimester, things take a turn for the worse in the third trimester due to increasing feelings of discomfort.

The following tips can be followed for getting a good sleep during your pregnancy.

Try following a nutritious but sleep friendly diet. Avoid eating spicy foods which can cause heartburn. If you still have heartburn then try sleeping with your head elevated on pillows. Cut down your caffeine intake and try having herbal teas instead Have plenty of fluids throughout the day to prevent headaches which can disturb your sleep.

But take care to cut back the amount of fluids you have during late evening and night. This will help in reducing the frequent visits to the toilet which disturbs your sleep.

Do not lay flat on your back. Try sleeping to your left as it is found comfortable for the baby too. Exercise regularly to improve your blood circulation. But do not exercise in the late evenings. Make sure your exercise regime is over at least 4 hours before going to bed. Doing yoga is also found to take care of your pregnancy sleep problems.

Sleep on a soft mattress. There are pregnancy mattresses and pillows available which will reduce your discomfort and help you in getting a comfortable sleep. Sleeps in loose and comfortable clothes.Maternity night wear are easily available in the market nowadays.

Extra breast fullness and sensitivity might also be the reason for you waking up at unearthly hours during pregnancy. Wearing a sleep bra which supports your breasts comfortably is a solution to this problem.If your sleep problem still persists, then be sure to consult your physician.

Pregnant women should understand that a sound sleep is required very much for the baby’s healthy development. By following the above tips, you can ensure a good night’s sleep for you and your baby.
