PCOS – How Can You Treat Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is the condition where you have cysts growing in either one or both your ovaries. This leads to a disruption in the menstrual cycle making it irregular or sometimes absent.

Cysts are basically follicles growing in your ovaries which are filled with fluids and hormones. Usually the ovaries itself produces follicles every month one out of which matures and produces an egg. This egg is then released in a process called ovulation which leads to pregnancy if the egg is fertilized.

Polycystic ovaries do not produce fully developed follicles that produce and release an egg. PCOSalso leads to an excess production of male hormones which causes excessive body and facial hair, acne, dandruff, obesity, baldness and a thickness and discoloration of skin.

PCOS pregnancy is hard to achieve but you must not give up hope. Nowadays most problems are curable either naturally or taking the help of medicines in the long term. In fact it has been observed that PCOS pregnancy is not only possible but once you get pregnant with PCOS this condition does not re appear after giving birth and leads way to more natural pregnancies.

What should you look for if you have PCOS?

If you are suffering from PCOS and are pregnant then you need to be very careful. Women with this condition have a high chance of miscarriage. This might either be because the quality of the egg is not good or because of the elevated insulin or hormonal levels which can lead to a loss of pregnancy. If you suffer from PCOS then there is a high chance of you developing diabetes later on in life.

The first thing that you should do to counter the condition of polycystic ovaries is shift to a PCOS diet from a normal diet. An appropriate PCOS diet is needed as this condition is related to insulin resistance which prevents your body from breaking down sugar.

There are two kinds of diets which you can follow. One is the Reduced Calorie Diet which helps you deal with weight issues, high blood pressure and high cholesterol level as these are major problems. Another diet that you can follow is Low Glycemic Index Diet. In this diet you are suggested to have low gycemic foods which are rich in carbohydrates. Thus Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome can be treated if proper steps are taken.
