There are many causes of nappy rashes. One of the main reasons is the failure to change the diaper in time. As a result the moist diaper will remain in contact with the baby’s skin for a long period of time, thus leading to development of rashes in the skin.

The rashes in the skin are usually a result of fungal infections which occurs due to the retaining of moisture in the diaper area for a long time.

If the baby or the breast feeding mother is on antibiotic treatment, then there is a chance of occurrence of diaper rashes.

Hygiene is the most important factor to be considered when it comes to the prevention of nappy rashes. Care should be taken to change the diaper in time. The diaper should be changed whenever it gets soiled.

The diaper region should be always kept clean and dry. Clean the area with warm water and a mild soap which is suitable for the baby’s skin. Avoid scented soaps and cleansers which contain alcohol, as it can cause irritation of the skin. Dry the area with a clean towel and let it air dry for some time. Put on another diaper only after the skin becomes completely dry.

Doctors usually prescribe application of anti fungal creams to treat diaper rashes. There are also many home made remedies by which we can treat diaper rashes. Massaging the affected area with a mixture of olive oil and water is seen to be very effective in treating diaper rashes.

Thus by taking proper care, we can protect our baby from contracting the irritating condition of nappy rashes
