Perform Kegel Exercises

In order to avoid urinary incontinence, it is essential for a pregnant woman to perform kegel exercises. These exercises will help in the tightening and strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles and in the process will lead to an improvement in your bladder health. Kegel exercises are very easy and you can practice them at anytime of the day as per your convenience.

A simple form of the exercise can be practiced by squeezing the muscles involved in urine flow for about 10 seconds and then releasing them. Practicing this exercise for about 10 to 15 times a day will definitely help to improve your bladder control.

Schedule Your Bathroom Visits

Another method of controlling unexpected bladder movements is by urinating at fixed time periods. This way you will develop more bladder control and the urge to visit the bathroom at very frequent intervals will get lessened.

But this doesn’t mean that you should hold back your urine for long periods of time as it may pave way for other problems like urinary tract infections. It is advised that initially you take a trip to the bathroom every 30 minutes and then prolong the gap with the passage of time. Also see to it that you empty your bladder completely every time you visit the bathroom.

Optimize Your Fluid Intake

For a healthy pregnancy, it is of course necessary to have a lot of fluids. But to avoid problems, it is necessary that you have your fluids in a smart way. Diuretics such as caffeine have properties which will tend to over stimulate the bladder, thereby causing urinary incontinence.

So avoid having coffee and soft drinks, but at the same time do keep yourself completely hydrated by drinking plenty of water. It will also be advisable to avoid citrus and tomato products as they are seen to contribute towards the problem of urinary incontinence. Also avoid drinking fluids just before going to bed, so as to relieve your bladder from unnecessary pressure during night time.

Use Pads as a Protective Measure

If you are worried that your unruly bladder will cause you embarrassment in the middle of a crowd, then it is better that that you adopt the habit of using pads. These pads will help in absorbing urine and will thus same you from discomforts and troublesome situations. You can either wear a panty liner or also make use of maxi sized sanitary pads, depending on your requirements.

There are also many medications which can be used for treating severe cases of urinary incontinence. But since all medicines won’t suit a pregnant woman, it is advised that you also seek professional help before resorting to any sort of medications.
