Generally, oral retinoid like isotretinoin used for acne treatment is known for defects in child birth. However, there is no information about any harmful effects of retinoid on skin practically, but the doctor advice pregnant women to avoid this ingredient for extra caution. Forms of retinoid that should be avoided are Differin (adapelene), Retinoic acid, Retinyl palmitate, Tazorac and avage (Tazarotene), Retinol, Retin-A, Renova (tretinoin) and Retinyl linoleate.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is used to treat some particular skin problems along with acne treatment. It is usually found in numerous skin products such as toners and cleansers. This mild acid can enter through facial oils into the aperture of the skin, cleaning the dead cells of the skin.

Salicylic acid falls under aspirin category, which can help to reduce redness and irritation. Beta hydroxyl acid is another form of salicylic acid used in anti-aging moisturizers. However, this mild salicylic acid should be avoided by the expecting women. Excessive doses of this component may cause defect during the time of the baby birth.

Tips for Healthy Skin During Pregnancy

At the time of pregnancy, you should take at least 3-4 cups of milk, variety of fruits specially fruits having citric acid, vegetables, green leafy vegetables, eggs, meat, fish, whole grain bread, butter and all types of healthy food. Along with food, you should take vitamin, calcium tablets for healthy growth of the unborn baby.

A proper and sound sleep is very necessary during pregnancy to keep the skin healthy. Keep the skin moisturised from time to time, as the skin becomes dry during pregnancy. Drink lots of water to maintain the water balance inside the body. Water keeps the skin toned along with removing the toxic substances from the body. Keep smiling and remain happy, because happiness helps to elevate the blood circulation inside the body resulting in vigorous and glowing skin.
