Steam Relief for Nasal Congestion
When you have blocked nasal passage during pregnancy that trouble you during sleep and while awake, what better and safer remedy than a stream treatment! Steaming can immediately open up the nasal passages and clears the sinus, giving you immediate relief. You can do steaming at the comfort of your bathroom, if you have a geyser at your disposal. Open the tap after setting it in its maximum temperature. Leave the door closed so that the bathroom is filled with steam.
Now, you can inhale and exhale deeply for about 15 minutes until your nose is cleared. Steaming can also be done with a pot of boiling water. Put a towel over your head, covering the pot and your face completely for preventing the steam from escaping. Inhale and exhale the steam until the steam is no longer hot.
Nasal Congestion Can be Relieved With Saline Nose Sprays
This too is a simple treatment that can be done at home while you are pregnant, without harming the baby in the stomach. Saline drops can be got from drug stores. Open the spray and hold it in your left nostril. Close your right nostril with your finger and spray the saline into your nose, breathing in at the same time. Repeat this with your right nostril, while you keep the left nostril closed.
This can be repeated every four hours for great relief from congestion. Saline sprays can be made at home as well. Take one cup of pure water for this and add 1/4th teaspoon of salt to it. Add 1/4th tablespoon of salt to this water ad shake well for mixing it. Leaning over a sink, you can now tilt you head towards one side.
Using the neti pot, pour water on the nostril that is on top and wait till the water runs out through the nostril which is down. Repeat the procedure by tilting your head on to the other side. Nasal congestion can be cured with nasal strips as well. Nasal strips are nothing but strips that are fixed on the outside of the nose to leave the nostrils open and prevent congestion from setting in. They are good for getting good sleep at night. Nasal passages can be got from medical shops.
Remove the sticker from the back and place the nasal strips on the middle section of your nose, starting from one side and going over the bridge to the other side. This will keep the nose open while you sleep. You can remove the strip in the morning when you wake up.
